Making a Sturmgepack
These assault packs were made using the cook vessel, two coat straps, two cook vessel straps, shelter half, two bread bag straps, and coat or blanket. This is one of the many configurations used by German troops.
1. Lay out shelter half with inside up.
2. Lay the blanket on top of the shelter half. If the coat is used you will have to make many folds to get it to fit inside.
3. Fold the outer few inches of the shelter half in.
4.Tightly roll from the end opposite the one with the neck string.
5. Buckle one of the cook vessel straps in the center of the roll. Hook one coat strap on each side of the cook vessel carry handle. Place the cook vessel front down with the top centered on the strap around the shelter half/blanket roll.
6. a. Fold the shelter half/blanket roll into a U-shape and buckle the coat straps.
b. Buckle the other cook vessel strap around the loose roll ends.
c. Hook one end of the bread bag straps to the top cook vessel strap.
7. Hook the loose end of the bread bag straps to the bottom cook vessel strap.
8. Flip the pack over and adjust the cook vessel position as needed.
